About Elementary Band
In Marshfield, students in elementary school have the option of starting to learn a band instrument in their 6th grade year.
At the end of 5th grade, Mr. Neidner comes around to the classrooms to spark interest in band. At this time, students get to see and hold the instruments they may be interested in, and get their first shot at trying to play one! Once they pick an instrument, they start learning how to play it during the summer before 6th grade.
There are many instruments that students can pick from:
*Please note that percussion requires proficiency in identifying notes on a staff and passing a rhythm proficiency*
*Oboe and French Horn are specialized instruments, and require approval from Mr. Neidner*
Throughout the school year, students in 6th grade band can expect a 25 minute private or group (4 or less) lesson on their instrument at their elementary school and also an hour long rehearsal on Monday where all elementary band students meet at Marshfield High School.
